The Knowledge Center for the History of Slavery, which is being established, will have a local, national and international focus. It has the ambition to develop into the center of expertise in the Netherlands in the field of the history of slavery and its impact on the present.

The Knowledge Center for the History of Slavery in Zeeland has the ambition to become the center of expertise in the Netherlands in the field of the history of slavery and its impact on the present. The center aims to promote remembrance and keep alive the attention for the history of slavery by developing, uniting and sharing knowledge about the history of slavery and its impact and by stimulating the celebration of the abolition of slavery.

Slavery history of Zeeland
Zeeland’s slavery history has been seen as an essential part of Zeeland’s history for several years now. On July 1, 2021, the Dialogue Group on the History of Slavery presented the report ‘Chains of the past’, Report of Findings, to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK).
